The #VP87 crew were back on track last weekend as a packed season got underway at the IAME Winter Cup in Valencia (ESP). Vinnie is back with Fusion Motorsport for the season and now officially steps up full-time to the Junior X30 class. After an outstanding season in 2020 expectations and hopes are high heading into this year.

The weekend started off with the #YRDArmy driver taking to the track for qualifying practice and as the session got underway Vinnies pace and talent was clear from the outset, lapping incredibly fast and ending the session a very impressive 4th.

Heat one would see an intense race for Vinnie, battling hard at the front of the field always within reach of the leader, as the race progressed and the 8 laps past Vinnie found himself fighting with the top 5 and crossing the line where he started in P4. A solid start to the weekend.

Heat two would see more of this intense racing from Vinnie and the skill was on show for the world to see as Vinnie pushed hard and matched his heat one result of 4th place, keeping points to a minimum to optimise his grids ahead of the Pre-Final.

Heat three however, saw some bad luck strike a tough race saw Vinnie slip back to 11th making the task ahead look harder than expected but nothing the reigning British Karting Champion couldn’t deal with.

Now it was time for the Pre-Final and Vinnie was ready to take on the Spanish circuit and set his starting position for the all important final. Lights went out and the racing got started with Vinnie ready to make moves. As expected with an international field, the racing was hard fought and Vinnie was pushing hard finishing the race in an unrepresentative 14th place. Not the desired or deserved result but one which Vinnie thrives upon and heading into the final he was ready to deliver on his slogan and ‘prepare for war’.

The final got underway and so did Vinnie’s moves as he made a start on his 17 lap mission on regaining places following the bad luck. In treacherous conditions Vinnie was lapping at the pace of the leaders and battling hard to fight past his fellow competitors. The race progressed and so did Vinnie coming to the flag to take 11th place.

The result wasn’t what the #VP87 crew desired but many positives can be taken away from the Spanish trip and the season ahead with the phenomenal team around him looks full of hope.

Prepare For War.

Jesse recovers to 12th in final

Another #YRDArmy member who took to the Spanish track was that of Jesse Phillips. Back door his second year of racing Jesse was looking to continue his improvements sourced in 2020 and deliver this season.

The young talent showed great pace in qualifying finishing P8 and well within reach of a great result. As the weekend progressed through the heats the improvements of Phillips were clear, P3 in heat one saw a great start to racing and one to build upon. Heat two saw some bad luck strike finishing P9, still a very respectable result and one Jesse would bounce back from. Heat 3 saw exactly that and Jesse was back on form taking another P3, a great result which would see an impressive 7th place start for the pre-final.

The pre-final saw a tough race for Jesse as the conditions worsened and bad luck struck knocking Jesse back down the field but still claiming a respectable P14 bride spot for the grand final.  As lights went out Jesse set to work in a similar manner to that of Vinnie fighting hard with the pack to recover from the damage of the pre-final.  Impressive pace and some outstanding manoeuvres saw Jesse climb the field to take P12 at the line.

A great start to the season and certainly showing Jesse is one to watch in 2021.
