YRDA Drivers at second BTCC weekend

Ginetta Junior Championship

Everyone at the Young Racing Driver Academy and Arden Motorsport would like to wish Billy Monger and Patrik Pasma a speedy recovery after being involved in a terrible accident in race three of the British F4 Championship. Our thoughts go out to both drivers and their families at this tough time.

The second weekend of the BTCC support series package took place at Donington Park last weekend and as ever YRDA drivers were out in force in the British F4 and Ginetta Junior Championships.

British F4 Championship:

Oscar Piastri – 2nd (championship)

Oscar had a solid weekend, but one that could have gone better had a bit more luck come his way. Race one a chaotic start left Oscar out of touch with the leaders completely, but he eventually brought it home in 5th place. To sum race two up in one word would be frustrating! Oscar was stuck behind a competitor who was not prepared to give up the position at any cost and it eventually allowed Harry Webb and Ayrton Simmons to catch with Webb passing a hugely frustrated Piastri. We all know why race three ended shortly, but it was Oscar's best result of the weekend with 2nd place.

Ayrton Simmons – 4th

Ayrton did not have the weekend he was hoping for and it all started with qualifying with yellow flags preventing Ayrton setting a quick time near the end of the session. Despite this Ayrton was running well in the early stagesof race one in around 5th place but an incident saw him tumble down the order to 11th place. Race two saw Ayrton improve to 6th place, but race three he was unfortunately the innocent victim in a shunt at turn one which took out many front runners and left him in 10th place.

Alex Quinn – 7th

Alex’s first two races were unfortunately ruined after an incident in race one which led to mechanical issues. A quick turn around between races one and two left the mechanics no time to fix what was a big job so Alex couldn’t start race two which was understandably frustrating! To make things worse he was involved in the first corner pile up in race three and classified 9th place.

Jamie Sharp – 11th

Jamie made a huge step forward and seemed like a completely different driver compared to Brands. He raced hard, showed tremendous pace and turned more than just a few heads! Jamie raced to 8th in the opening race of the weekend before improving on his best result of the season in race two to 7th place! Race three he was involved in an incident leaving him 13th but overall a very impressive weekend for the rookie!

Ginetta Junior Championship:

Tom Wood – 3rd

Tom had an awesome weekend in Ginetta Junior standing on the podium twice to close the gap to the championship leader! Race one was Tom’s worst in terms of results with 5th place, but he got his elbows out in race two to charge through to 2nd place! Race three he drove smartly to work with competitors and close down the lead pair. Tom came close to winning at one time, but in the end had to settle for 3rd place. It’s points on the board and leaves him just 10 points off the top.

Tom Canning – 13th

Tom Canning didn’t have the best of luck in the opening two races, but turned things around in race three to get a top ten finish! Race one a delay at the start left him having to fight through from the back and in a tough battle he eventually came out in 12th. Race two was a whole lot worse with a incident putting an immediate stop to his race, but from the back of the grid he drove very well to come through to 9th in the final race of the weekend!
