Young karting talent Luke Whitehead joins the YRDA for 2018

February 16, 2018

Luke, from Sevenoaks in Kent started racing in 2011 in the Honda Cadet Class where he learnt his craft and began his journey on the motorsport ladder. He competed in the hugely competitive Trent Valley Kart Club Championship in 2012, finishing a credible 15th overall despite his inexperience and competing against drivers who had been racing far longer than he had been at that point.

Luke remained in Honda Cadet for two further seasons, entering the Super One British Karting Championship in the 2013 and 2014 season, finishing 13th in the 30+ strong grid of some of Britain’s best.

2015 was Luke’s final season in Cadets, where he managed a brilliant 5th in the Kartmasters British Kart Grand Prix – before graduating to the Junior categories of karting in 2016.

After adapting to the bigger, grippier and more powerful karts – Luke competed once again in the Super One British Karting Championship in 2017, racing in Junior X30.

His best weekend of the season came at Whilton Mill, where he established himself as a championship contender – winning the First Final, before finishing 3rd in the Grand Final to give him his biggest points haul of the season.

Luke endured a strong season to finish 7th overall in the championship, a feat he looks to better this season after already taking race wins during the Winter Series in preparation for the 2018 season.

'When Steve Hutchinson approached Dad and I at Shenington after I had won the final, I was literally blown away. I am so excited at working closely with everyone at Arden/YRDA and really looking forward to the future...'
Jamie Horner "We are delighted that Luke has joined the YRDA. His impressive performances on track indicate a level of talent suited to a transition into Senior Motorsport. We look forward to supporting him in working towards this goal."
