Watts and Phillips poised for UKC title assaults

July 15, 2020

Luke Watts and Vinnie Phillips took the weekend by storm at Rowrah brining home some silverware in preparation for the 2020 Ultimate Karting Championship (UKC).  Both drivers showed that their hard work and training in lockdown and a busy testing period was paying off as both Luke in Junior X30 and Vinnie in Mini X30 brought home 2nd and 3rd place respectively. A strong foundation for both to build upon ahead of first ever round of the Ultimate Karting Championship.

Luke Watts carried on from where he left off brining home even more trophies to add to his impressive collection from the start of 2020.  A strong test prior to the weekend put him in a good position heading into race day at Rowrah. After a tough days worth of racing and some great battles in the heats Watts qualified 8th and knowing he had the pace to win lined up on the fourth row of the grid ready for a strong comeback in the final.  After a strong well fought race Luke crossed the line second showing great race craft and setting the bar high heading into round one this weekend.

Luke Watts: “A tough weekend in terms of the racing at Rowrah, but we never gave up all weekend and pleased with from 8th on the grid in the final”

The other member of the #YRDArmy racing at the Rowrah circuit was Vinnie Phillips, the young Fusion Motorsport talent drove an amazing race to bring home his mini X30 to a highly impressive 3rd place finish in what looks to be one of the most highly fought classes in 2020. Also racing in the Mini class was YRDA and KMS teammate of Luke Watts was Freddie Allum, strong pace and a great race craft saw the young talent bring is kart home to a highly impressive 9th place I’n such an experienced grid.

So the stage is set for the lights to go green on the first ever Ultimate karting Championship and our #YRDArmy will be in mix aiming for more silverware and as always top honours in the 2020 championship.

Irfan continues impressive form

It wasn’t just in the UK the YRDA was showing its talent, over in Italy off the back of a highly impressive WSK Super Masters Series, Josh Irfan drove a super race to bring is OKJ, RFM kart home to a highly impressive 9th place on the best grid in the world. A strong showing for Josh and a sign of what’s to come in 2020 as the CIK FIA European Championship has now been announced and will begin as of the 31st July in Zuera Spain. Josh is sure to be a front runner aiming for some strong results.

The past weekend also saw Simon Stoneham (X30 Senior), Kian Bennett (TKM Extreme) and Ethian Symonds (Mini X30) hit the track at Kimbolton Kart Club for the official test showing some great pace across all conditions as they build towards what looks to be a busy season for all three drivers.
