It’s going to be a big season for Tom Wood as he prepares to make the step up to the European GT4 Championship. Tom will race alongside Fiona James as a Pro-Am pairing in the brand new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 Academy Motorsport car. The championship will take place over six rounds supporting the Blancpain GT Series at tracks including Monza, Paul Ricard, Nürburgring and Brands Hatch.

After racing in the British GT Championship, a move into a European series in 2019 was always the aim for Tom who will be giving himself a great platform in European GT4. He’ll have the chance to prove his skills to the Blancpain paddock as well as being able to race on some of the biggest European circuits for the very first time.

Along with the afore mentioned tracks Tom will also be visiting Zandvoort and Misano with two races being held at each event. Tom raced with Academy Motorsports in the British GT championship last year alongside Jan Jonck in the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 which will be very useful experience coming into 2019.

Similar to last season Tom will be one of the youngest and least experienced drivers on track at just 17 years’ old. However, his teammate, Fiona, did race with Academy Motorsport in the championship last year which should make the pair a very good fit for this season.

Tom Wood: “I’m super excited to be racing in Europe with Fiona this season, who raced the Academy Aston Martin in Europe last year. The championship is renowned as one of if not the most competitive GT4 championship in the World. To be racing around some of the world’s most famous Grand Prix race tracks such as Monza and the Nürburgring is something that I have been dreaming about since I started racing at six years old.”

Tom continues: “We’ve got some tough competition this year but I’m sure with the new Aston Martin, which I’ve already tested at Silverstone, and strong Aston Martin factory engineering support for our team, we can be extremely competitive.”

Tom is also delighted that he has the ongoing support from MSV Donington Park and is proud to represent them again this year.

Tom Wood: “It’s such a privilege to have Donington Park’s support again this year. We’ve come on such a journey together and I thank everyone who has been there for me.”
