Strong start in British F4 double header

British F4

The past two weekends saw the first two rounds of the British F4 season get underway and #YRDArmy members Alex Connor, Roman Bilinski and Fredrick Lubin made a strong start in their campaigns for the overall and rookie titles.

Round one of the 2020 season eventually took place at the Donington Park Circuit with all three drivers keen to make a positive start on their season campaigns.

Alex Connor signalled his intent with a well-managed maiden series victory in the first contest of the weekend, making immediate progress from his fifth-position grid slot.

He would then scythe through the pack to take a lead he would never relinquish, managing the race superbly en route to a memorable win.

The 16-year-old suffered unfortunate contact in the second encounter, but produced a solid recovery drive in the final race to add to his points tally.

Connor: ”It was a mixed weekend overall but I think there were many positives to take away from it.”

Frederick Lubin impressed on his debut British F4 weekend, securing points in all three races including a standout performance in the second race to narrowly miss out on the overall podium in fourth position.

A well-deserved hat-trick of points finishes for the YRDA-backed racer translates to second position in the highly-competitive Rookie Cup standings.

Lubin: “My first British F4 round was really good fun! I learnt a lot and took most things in my stride.”

Rookie, Roman Bilinski also enjoyed a promising start to his campaign, securing two top-ten finishes in the first two races.

Despite a challenging final race, the Ginetta graduate enjoyed strong pace and will take plenty of positives into the trio of Brands Hatch races.

The following weekend saw Arden’s Red Arrows head to the technical Brands Hatch GP circuit. Following a mixed run at the first round, the Arden trio were keen to make up for lost points.

In a shortened season consistency is key and Connor kept his momentum up scoring a third place finish in race one. Another good points haul to add to his 2020 title charge.

The second contest saw Connor have a 5th place finish after a tough race following a reversed grid start.

The weekend ended as it started for Alex taking 3rd place showing his intent once again in 2020. The result leaves him 3rd in the championship 15 points away from second with plenty of races to close the gap.

With his eyes firmly on the rookie prize in 2020, Fredrick Lubin was hoping to add to his double podium at the season opener.

Following a tough Saturday which saw Lubin fall just outside of the points, he bounced back in the final race on Sunday afternoon, adding to his points tally from round one.

A great result in just his second race weekend out of Karting.

Lubin: “Qualifying was going well but I made a mistake that cost us the weekend. Race 1 I was taken out on the last lap and race 2 wasn’t much better as I made too many mistakes. I’m happy to end the weekend off with a points finish in p10 and p2 rookie although I wish I had done better.”

Bilinski’s hard work would pay off and round 2 with 3 points finishes including his best finish of the season with a fifth place finish in Race 3. A sign of things to come for the 16 year old.

So that wraps up round 2 for our F4 drivers, a break this weekend before a swift return to racing at the tricky Oulton Park.
