CEV European Moto2 Championship
It was a decision that was not taken lightly by Sam, racing in British GP2 puts him in front of the huge crowds that gather for the British Superbike Championship. But racing in Europe is another kettle of fish with circuits on this year’s European calendar including the likes of Estoril, Valencia, Catalunya and Aragon. It also puts Sam, the sole Briton in the series, up against the best riders from around the World.
With the CEV and BSB calendars often clashing Sam decided this year to focus more on BSB racing, but now feels ready to make the move into Europe after finding great form on the Kalex Moto2. It gives Sam great experience on circuits he hopes to be racing on for the rest of his career as well as giving him the opportunity to display his talent in a series which is closely watched by all the major manufacturers.
With Sam’s ultimate goal to make it onto the MotoGP circuit it is going to be a great step and one he feels more than ready for having hit good form this year. Sam will have tough competition though, with championship leaders Edgar Pons, Hector Garzo and Niki Tuuli all having Moto2 Grand Prix experience as well as featuring in the new MotoE Championship which launched this year.
The calendar for next year has not been announced yet, but all the major Spanish circuits are likely to appear as well as one or two trips outside of Spain which could feature the likes of Estoril again. Sam has two more rounds to further improve his pace before testing will begin for 2020 in what will be Sam’s biggest season in his career to date!
Sam Wilford: “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to finish off this current season in the CEV Repsol European Moto2 Championship. The challenge excites me and I also look forward to racing in this Championship next year. As this will be mostly new tracks to me working in the Simulator with YRDA will be a great benefit for preparing me every weekend.”
Sam will be on track this weekend at Albacete with the final round of the season taking place at Valencia on the 10th November. Head to Sam’s profile page in the ‘Our Talent’ section to find out more about the 21-year-old and where you can follow him on social media.
