Oscar Piastri became Vice-Champion in the British F4 Championship this weekend, as well as being awarded the Joe Tandy Memorial Award- given to drivers as the “Most impressive newcomer of the 2017 F4 British Championship" season.

This highly coveted award is given to whom the championship organisers deem to have made the biggest impression on the championship this season, and who they believe has improved the most over the course of the season.

The Joe Tandy award was put together in honour of the late Joe Tandy with the help of Joe’s race team JTR. Joe’s ethos was to develop and nurture new emerging talent. A prime example of this is with Joe’s younger brother Nick, who this year went on to win the Le Mans 24 hour race with Porsche.

Oscar's excellent debut season in car racing, where he took 6 victories, 15 podiums, 7 pole positions and finished 2nd in the championship meant he was chosen as the deserved winner of the prestigious award.

Joe Tandy's brother Nick Tandy was in attendance to present Oscar with the trophy, as he had been showcasing the Le Mans triple winning Porsche 919 Hybrid in front of the capacity crowd earlier in the day.

Oscar proudly received the award and gave his summary of the 2017 season:

"I was very honoured to receive the two driver awards today The JT Memorial Trophy for my driving achievements this season and also the Driver's Choice  Driver of the series award. "

"It really means a lot to me. I have made a lot of friends during the championship and we have all learned a lot from our teams and each other. "

"Big thanks to my awesome team, Arden Motorsport who worked very hard all year; Garry Horner and family, F4 team manager Ben, my engineer Pedro, my mechanic Arlen, my fitness trainer Simon and all the crew you guys are the best! "

"Also to my fantastic sponsors HP Tuners, RaceRender LLC, VCM Performance, Flash Diesel and Steve and Rob from Young Racing Driver Academy without you this would not be possible. Thankyou so much to my family who sacrifice a lot for me to live and race on the other side of the world. "

"Finally, to all my fans and friends in Europe and back home in Australia thank you so much for all your support and messages during the year."

Oscar's 2018 plans are to be announced soon, everyone at the YRDA would like to offer our congratulations on a great season!
