Max Cook back in Italy for unfinished business

May 30, 2019

Red Bull Rookies

Max Cook heads to Mugello this weekend for round two of the Red Bull Rookies Cup and will be looking to settle his unfinished business after falling off the bike in the 2018 round. Now a much more confident on the bike, as demonstrated with his impressive Jerez performances, Max will be looking to be fighting for podiums once more and move up the top ten in the standings.

Max got his season off to a great start at Jerez just a few weeks ago with two points scoring finishes leaving him tenth in the championship. Race one saw Max battling for the lead before a ride through penalty for a jump start put him back to nineteenth. However, a determined Max would come back through to finish eleventh and he improved on that result in race two with a career best eighth.

Max’s overall confidence on the bike has risen going into his second season and Mugello will be an exciting test. It’s going to be all about staying with the leaders until the end with slipstreaming coming into big effect. The track is over 5km long and has one of the longest straights on the calendar which leads the riders down to turn one.

From there Max will be faced with very fast sweeping corners which come with lots of different elevation changes making it easy to fall off as Max found out last year. Having learnt from his mistakes Max will certainly not be hoping for a repeat of that in the one and only race of the weekend on Saturday.

Max has been frustrated with some of his qualifying performances in general in 2019 although in Jerez he started both races in the middle of row three. If he can repeat or better that result at Mugello there’s every chance he can fight for a podium.

After what has been a hectic schedule so far in 2019 Max took a much needed break last week as he headed to Morroco with his sponsor Motor Sports Travel. It was a much needed rest for Max and will allow him to come into this weekend refreshed and full of energy ready for a big weekend ahead!

Max Cook: “I’m really looking forward to being back here in Mugello with the Red Bull Rookies. It’s a fantastic circuit and there will certainly be close racing on Saturday. I’m very happy with how round one went, we showed great pace and proved we can fight for podiums. I’ll be aiming to do the same again this weekend and set a new career best finish in this championship.”
