After his first podium of 2020 just one week ago at Kimbolton, Luke arrived at Shenington looking for a repeat result or better still, a race win! Things got off to a brilliant start with Luke displaying awesome pace in practice, but after his engine seized he was immediately on the back foot before race day had even commenced.
A late start to the day would see the heats reduced to just six minutes with only two heats per class. It meant one bad result would see you down the order in the final regardless of a good result in the remaining heat. For Luke, it took less than a corner in heat one for him to be fired off the road and with too much damage to continue Luke would start the day with a DNF.
To make matters worse he would have to start down in 13th for heat two, but determined to get himself as high up the order as possible for the final Luke began gaining positions straight away! In just six minutes Luke worked his way up to 2nd by the penultimate lap, but 0.8 seconds behind the leader meant he’d have to settle for position. The result would put Luke 13th on the grid for the eight-minute final.
The task would be a lot more difficult than in heat two with all the fast drivers at the front. On a track that is also easy to defend on Luke would have to be bold in his attempts and could waste no time behind any drivers. Over twelve laps Luke would pass eight drivers setting one of the fastest laps of the race as he eventually finished in 5th place.
Along with his 8th and 3rd so far this season it continues a good start to 2020 for Luke with a trip to Whilton Mill the next stop this weekend.
