Josh Irfan takes first OKJ podium in WSK Euro Series

September 23, 2020

It was a brilliant week for Josh Irfan over in Lonato who showed that he is hitting form at just the right time with a 2nd in the WSK Euro Series second round. As the FIA Karting World Championship edges ever closer, Josh turned his impressive pace into a trophy paying finish at Lonato. It comes off the back of lots of hard work in a debut OKJ season which has seen plenty of ups and downs.

With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting championships to dates and locations, the WSK decided to run both their second and third rounds on the same week at South Garda Karting. It would be a week that would see the drivers agility tested to the limit having not long recovered from the FIA Karting European Championship season finale.

After qualifying on the second row for the final at the season opener Josh felt he was back for some unfinished business. The Ricky Flynn Motorsport driver would get off to a good start qualifying 10th overall leaving him on the inside of row two for all of his heats.

Although Josh would get off to a difficult start finishing 11th in heat one he would fight back string taking two top five finishes to put himself 6th on the grid for his Pre-Final. It would be the afore mentioned where Josh would really come into his element charging up the order to finish an impressive 3rd place! Josh’s 3rd would be no fluke either as he fought for the win on the last lap, all very encouraging signs going into the final.

The result in the Pre-Final meant Josh would once again start 6th and in what was almost a repeat to the Pre-Final Josh would work his way through to take his first podium in the OK Junior class in European competition. A brilliant result and one that has come off the back of months oof hard work.

The result comes at a pretty good time too as we now head into a five week break and on return Josh will be in Portugal for both the Champions of the Future season finale before going straight in the FIA Karting World Championship!
