It was a memorable weekend at the Larkhall circuit in France after he took round three victory at the Super One British Championship beating both local driver, Cian Shields to the flag by one second. Having qualified pole position for final one, Ivan was left slightly disappointed with 3rd place. But put on a stunning show to ‘recover’ and get his second win of the season.

Ivan showed great pace from the start of the weekend as ever qualifying in 2nd place for the heats just a fraction of a second behind Rashan Chigorimbo. But Ivan would go on to steal the show in the heats winning both with relative ease. At this stage of the weekend, it became a question of could anyone beat him in the finals rather than who would win!

Final One was seemingly going to plan with Ivan leading the way for the first twelve laps. But he was being kept honest by both Josh Rowledge and Josh McLean and soon lost the lead dropping to 3rd. This was where the race took a surprising turn with Rowledge going defensive ahead, McLean was left to clear off leaving Ivan a frustrated 3rd place at the flag.

Ivan made a decent start in final two running in 3rd by the end of lap two. From there he was left to chase down Chigorimbo who had a gap of on second. Ten laps in and the chase was completed and he wasted no time in passing Chigorimbo down at turn three. The gap to McLean was over a second and with less than ten laps to go he would have a tough task at closing him down let alone taking the lead.

But Ivan dug deep and with a nervous McLean ahead Ivan had caught the Fusion Motorsport gap as the last lap board was shown. So it would be a one lap showdown on a circuit that is very difficult to overtake on! The most obvious overtaking opportunity saw McLean hold on but out of the second hairpin heading into the final two corners Ivan drew alongside with McLean trying to slam the door in his face.

But Ivan was having none of it and the pair went wheel to wheel with McLean running himself off the circuit through the penultimate corner. As he re-joined the circuit they were still side by side for the last corner but Ivan had the inside and was able to make the move cleanly to take a thrilling race victory to the applauds of everyone who had been watching at turn one! It was a fantastic win, one Ivan will talk about for years to come and it put him the lead of the championship by just one point!

A weekend full of drama for Luke Whitehead

For Luke Whitehead, Larkhall was a weekend to forget. He was the victim of other driver’s mistakes or incidents in every single race leaving him down the grid for both finals. Even on the last lap in final two Luke was helped off the circuit having recovered to 8th place. As a racing driver, these weekends come around every now and then and Luke learnt a great lesson showing great maturity in dealing with the situation. Better still, he salvaged two top 12 finishes, championship points that could become value later in the season! Luke now sits 4th in the standings heading into round four.

Vinnie Phillips picks up season best 8th place

Vinnie picked up his best result of the season at Larkhall finishing 8th place in final two. Even more impressive, Vinnie was just 0.07 seconds off the quickest lap proving he has the potential to take podium finishes this season. It was a great recovery after the huge incident he had at Whilton Mill and he kept teammate, Aiden Neate honest in the dying stages of the race who has picked up podiums himself this season.

Luke Watts recovers to 9th in final two

It was most certainly a weekend of what could have been for Luke Watts at Larkhall. He showed his hugely impressive race pace in heat one gaining nine places on his way to 5th. Heat two was followed by some unfortunate luck and that continued into final one. Now having to start outside of the top twenty for final two Luke put on an impressive display to gain 12 places and finish 9th place taking valuable championship points with it!
