Alex was at the F4 Media day earlier this week to do an evaluation session on the TRS car and came back at Brands too. To many, Alex was a nailed on favourite for this season but he currently has no seat, however with a performance like that I’m sure it won’t be long before he finds one.
Elsewhere all the YRDA drivers had good days in what was a drying track throughout the two sessions. The three other TRS Arden drivers, Aryton Simmons, Oscar Piastri and Olli Caldwell were all strongly in the top ten for most of the day.
Ayrton was 2nd in the wet first session and in session two he was 7th just one tenth away from 3rd! Had he found two more tenths he would have been 2nd, but to beat Alex he would have needed to find more who was three tenths quicker than anyone. Ayrton has continued to be solid in testing and probably won’t look into the times too much given his previous form at Brands.
Oscar Piatsri was pushing hard throughout the day, sometimes a bit too hard as he had a couple offs but overall he completed 128 laps and finished a very impressive 5th place. His winter season testing has been going very well so far and in the media many are considering him a dark horse in this year’s championship.
Olli Caldwell was a strong top four contender all day. He was 5th in the wet morning session and got to as high as 3rd in the afternoon, but he had an off and was unable to get out on the track whilst it was at it’s quickest. Unfortunately, not getting back out dropped him to 12th but there were a lot of positives to be taken away from the day.
YRDA driver Jamie Sharp for Sharp Motorsport made a huge step forward from the Donington test. He ended that day 2.4 seconds off the quickest time and yesterday he was just 1.2 seconds off the quickest time! He’s halved the gap to the leaders in just one day, with more testing there’s no doubt that’ll come down.
