Alex Connor joins Young Racing Driver Academy

February 14, 2017

It has just been announced that 12 year old, Alex Connor, has joined the Young Racing Driver Academy. Based in Dubai, Alex had a breakthrough year in 2016 as he not only proved himself in the UAE, but also on the World stage at the Sodi World Series back in July.

Last year Alex competed in the Cadet X30 and Micro Max classes. Alex took the UAE championship in the Cadet X30 class and was Vice Champion in Micro Max in what was a largely dominant year!

In July Alex made the long trip over to France for the Sodi World Series. Having only just turned 12 years old, many of Alex’s competitors were almost 15 years old, but that did not stop him competing for the win. With all drivers in identical Sodi karts the race is down to driver skill and Alex fought hard to get himself onto the Sodi World Finals podium out of over 40 drivers!

If all of that wasn’t impressive enough already back in April 2016, Alex was invited to take part in the DAMAN Future Champions programme. The programme is run by Thinus Delport and Dame Kelly Holmes and mentors talented young athletes from across the sporting spectrum, developing their awareness and knowledge of key aspects in sport.

Alex is very aware of the work that is required off track if he is to become a successful sportsman and it was this drive that eventually led him to YRDA. With an attitude like that everyone at Arden is really looking forward to working with Alex.

On the announcement Alex commented: “My parents and my team, Energy Dubai, have helped me a lot during the time that I have been karting and now I am really excited to be joining the YRDA and learning from the team and the other drivers.”
