A strong start for Jem and Jimmy in Britcar Championship

April 26, 2021

It was time for the lights to go green on another championship in 2021 and this time it was the turn of the highly anticipated 2021 Britcar Endurance Championship. The championship would see former champion and #YRDArmy superstar, Jem Hepworth, join the new Praga class as she teams up with sim racing and YouTube legend, Jimmy Broadbent as they mount their championship assault.

With Jem and Jimmy both being very well known around the paddock the duo are firmly in the spotlight heading into 2021 with thousands tuning into BARC’s live stream just to see them race. The first round of the championship campaign began last weekend at the home of motorsport, Silverstone and Jem, Jimmy and their golden Praga machine were ready to do battle. Being Jimmy’s first race, Jem would have to play driver coach as well as teammate and help Jimmy find his feet in a very quick Praga R1T.

The debut weekend for the new Praga category got off to a strong start for Jem as the practice session got underway and data started pouring in to help the team develop to fight at the sharp end. The session ended a solid 5th in class for her and Jimmy who was still taking in the intensity of Britcar racing.

Race one and the first of the year would see the golden machine launch from 9th on the grid and set up what would become a phenomenal race. Lights went out and the racing got underway and throughout her stint Jem was showing last year’s experience to a premium as she carved through traffic to add to a fantastic combined result with her teammate of 4th, just missing out on the podium but a fantastic result for her first race in the new class and Jimmy’s debut event.

Race two would all see a great duel out on track and a drive from Jem praised across social media as she saw off chaos across the circuit. Brilliant pace saw the golden racing machine come across the line in 4th once again to score a good haul of points and end the weekend strong. It provided the rest of the field with just a small glimpse of what is still to come in 2021.

Alongside being one of the championship favourites Jem and Jimmy are clearly some of the fan favourites too and with 66,000 views online and tens of thousands of likes across social media it is clear we will be seeing much more of Jem and Jimmy as they aim to climb up to the top step of the podium and challenge for the title in 2021.

Now all eyes turn to round two at Snetterton in two weeks where this target will hopefully be achieved.

Alongside Jem on the prototype scene more great results have been pouring in for #YRDAlumni driver Tommy Foster who claimed a win on his debut in the Le Mans Cup. After graduating from the Arden F4 team in 2019 Tommy showed the world what he learnt and put in a stellar performance around the technical Barcelona Circuit. Once again showing the YRDA is in strong form across all classes and all nations.

Keep a close eye across all our pages to see how are #YRDArmy and #YRDAlumni drivers get on as the racing seasons hot up.
